Since the companys inception in 1992, Solars Computing
Systems has been dedicated to improving the productivity
and profitability of tour operators, travel agents and vendors
worldwide.
During our first 3 years, we focused successfully on the
development of product distribution gateways to airline
reservation systems. In 1995, SCS Solars Computing became
a public company on the Vancouver Stock Exchange, now the
TSX Venture Exchange.
In 1999, the company acquired Toronto based TourTek, a reservation
management system, and developed it into a state-of-the-art
tour operator management program. The events of 9/11/01
postponed TourTeks launch as SCS Solars management
anticipated that the travel industry would be facing some
hard financial times following the attack. Unfortunately,
we were proven right.
SCS Solars had initially intended TourTek to be a client
server system. Now, because of the changed economic climate,
we developed a Service Bureau (ASP) model. This enabled
tour operators to enjoy the majority of TourTeks features
and benefits without the major up-front investment of an
in-house installation. SCS Solars launched The Service Bureau
(SB) model in December 2002. Subsequently, the sales of
TourTek SB have repositioned SCS Solars in a business initiative
based on a per-transaction revenue stream.
In 2003, SCS Solars continued its expansion program with
the acquisition of Accovia USA, formerly known as Tech 7
Systems. Renamed Solars USA, the company maintains its operations
in Portland, Oregon. This acquisition instantly gave SCS
Solars a base of some 30 tour operators in the USA and complements
the robust suite of products and services we offer our growing
customer base.
Then in early 2005, to complete its travel industry product
line, SCS Solars acquired VIVO Systems, an all-in-one, easy
to set-up, easy to use, web-based distribution, marketing
and management solution for tour operators, travel wholesalers,
air consolidators, hoteliers and retail travel chains.
